Government Service Bond Policy for MBBS in Karnataka 2026
Understanding the service bond policy is essential before confirming MBBS admission in Karnataka. Bond obligations differ clearly based on college type and seat category.
Government Medical Colleges
Students admitted to government medical colleges in Karnataka are required to serve for one year in a government Primary Health Centre or government hospital in a rural area after completing their MBBS degree. Non-compliance attracts a penalty of 15 to 30 lakhs.
Government Quota Seats in Private Colleges
Karnataka's compulsory rural service obligation applies to students admitted under government quota seats in private medical colleges as well. Students admitted under government quota in private colleges are required to serve rural service - however, this rule has faced legal challenges, with private college students arguing they did not sign any bond at the time of admission. Students are advised to verify the current status at rguhs.ac.in before confirming admission.
Management & NRI Quota - Private and Deemed Universities
Students admitted through management quota or NRI quota in private and deemed universities are not subject to any rural service bond obligation after MBBS completion.
Management and NRI quota graduates without bond obligations can immediately pursue global licensing pathways such as USMLE for the United States, AMC for Australia, and PLAB for the United Kingdom after completing their MBBS.
Official Reference
Students must verify the latest bond conditions at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) rguhs.ac.in and Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) - kea.kar.nic.in before confirming admission.
Karnataka MBBS Seat Leaving Policy 2026
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) enforces highly stringent rules to prevent MBBS seat blocking during state medical admissions. If a candidate cancels their confirmed state quota seat after the stipulated deadline or leaves the medical course midway, they face a massive seat resignation penalty of up to 12,00,000 (Twelve Lakhs), along with the complete forfeiture of their entire MBBS course fee. Furthermore, any attempt to surrender a seat using forged documents results in immediate medical seat cancellation, total fee forfeiture, and strict criminal prosecution by the state authorities. Always verify deadlines during Karnataka NEET UG counselling.
Seat Leaving Disclaimer
The rules and penalties for leaving seats differ from stage of counselling and institution. Before dropping or withdrawing from an MBBS course, refer to official guidelines.
Disclaimer: The information provided on this page regarding Medical Colleges List, Seats, Fees, Counselling, and Cut Off for Karnataka State has been sourced from the websites of the National Medical Commission (NMC), Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), and the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), and is accurate as of February 2026.
Karnataka Medical Colleges Counselling
Seat allocation is being done in multiple phases both in All India counselling and State counselling of Karnataka. This is because, many seats are left vacant as seats are withdrawn by the students who did not get their college of choice, they were unable to arrange the prospect of their fees, lack of proof in terms of what category they applied for, etc.
After the committee/dates are sent to the college/deposit of fee/ delivery of documents, all such seats would be available for the next rounds. All India counselling and State counselling details for MBBS seat allocation are given below:
State counselling for allocation of MBBS seats under State Quota (Private/ Govt Medical college) is being conducted by State Common Entrance Test Cell, Karnataka. For Govt Medical College, MCC is the Government body for filling 15 % seats as per All India Quota; for Deemed University, 100 % of the seats are filled by MCC. Those who qualified NEET are eligible to apply in both the counselling processes.
