MBBS in Telangana 2026 - Overview
Telangana is one of the most sought-after states for MBBS admission in 2026, offering over 9,500 MBBS seats across 66 medical colleges, including Government, Private, Central Institutions (AIIMS ESIC), and Minority Medical colleges. The wide seat matrix across multiple districts makes Telangana a strong option for NEET-qualified candidates.
MBBS admissions are conducted through State counselling by KNRUHS, which manages 85% of Government seats and 100% of Private Medical College seats. The remaining 15% Government seats are filled under the All India Quota (AIQ) through MCC.
In terms of fees, Government Medical Colleges are highly affordable, with nominal annual tuition and low overall yearly expenses. Private Medical Colleges follow a structured three-tier fee system - subsidized State Quota seats, mid-range Management Quota seats, and premium NRI Quota seats - allowing students to choose options based on rank and budget.
With competitive NEET cut-offs, transparent counselling, affordable government fees, a large number of seats, and no compulsory rural service bond after MBBS, Telangana remains a balanced and strategic destination for NEET 2026 aspirants.

MBBS Service Bond Policy in Telangana 2026
Planning to pursue MBBS in Telangana? One of the biggest advantages for medical students in this state is its student-friendly bond policy. Unlike many other states in India, Telangana does not impose a compulsory rural service bond after completing MBBS.
Students who graduate from government or private medical colleges through counselling conducted by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) are not required to serve any mandatory state service period after internship.
Key Benefits for MBBS Students in Telangana
- No compulsory rural service bond after MBBS
- Freedom to immediately prepare for NEET PG
- Opportunity to pursue international licensing exams such as USMLE, PLAB, or AMC
- Ability to start private practice without delays
Because of this no bond advantage, Telangana has become one of the most preferred MBBS destinations for NEET aspirants across India.
Telangana MBBS Seat Leaving Policy (Discontinuation Bond)
Although Telangana has no post-MBBS service bond, the state enforces a strict seat-leaving penalty to prevent students from blocking valuable medical seats.
As per the latest official counselling rules:
Discontinuation Bond Amount
- The MBBS seat leaving penalty in Telangana is 20 Lakhs.
- This applies if a student leaves the course after:
- The official Free Exit deadline, OR
- Joining during the Mop-Up counselling round.
Additional Penalties
- Students who leave their MBBS seat must pay the full bond amount to retrieve original certificates.
- The defaulting candidate will be barred from participating in medical admissions under KNRUHS for 3 years.

Telangana Medical Colleges Counselling
Seat allocation is being done in multiple phases, both in the All India Counselling and the Telangana State Counselling. This is owing to the fact that many seats become empty as a result of students withdrawing their seats because they are unable to pay for their tuition at the institution of their choice, unable to provide evidence of the category they applied under, etc. All of these seats become available for the following rounds after the deadlines for reporting to the college, paying fees, and submitting paperwork have passed. The counseling rounds for MBBS seat allocation in all of India and each state are shown below.
The State Merit list for each category is prepared and published by the KNRUHS in Telangana. Based on the institution's cutoffs from the prior year, students can evaluate their chances of getting into the college of their choosing. It is advised to use MOKSH College Predictor, which makes use of machine learning and artificial intelligence, if you want to be certain about the odds. Additionally, depending on your current NEET ranking, reservation category, and other quotas that apply to you, this college predictor will offer you an idea and forecast the institution that would be a good fit for you.
