Bond Policy Seat Leaving Rules for MBBS in Punjab 2026

Punjab has recently overhauled its service bond policy for students admitted to Government Medical Colleges to ensure adequate medical workforce availability in state health services. It is no longer a "zero-bond" state.

Rural Service Bond Policy Details:

Mandatory Agreement: Students must sign a compulsory service bond at the time of admission.
Service Duration: Must serve for 1 year.
Penalty for Bond Violation: If a student refuses to fulfil the rural service requirement, they are liable to pay a massive bond penalty of 20 Lakhs. This may change, depending upon govt. notification

Seat Leaving Penalty:

If a student decides to discontinue the MBBS course or leave their seat after the final counseling round or after joining classes, they face severe financial consequences:

  • Candidates are usually required to pay a prescribed seat-leaving penalty of 10 Lakhs, OR
  • They may be forced to pay the full course fee for the remaining years of the degree.
