West Bengal MBBS Government Service Bond Penalty Rules 2026

One of the biggest advantages of pursuing an MBBS in West Bengal is the state's highly favourable bond policy for undergraduate medical students. Unlike many other Indian states that mandate years of rural service, West Bengal does not impose a compulsory post-MBBS government service bond for students admitted to government medical colleges. Graduates are completely free to pursue their postgraduate studies or start their medical careers immediately after completing their standard one-year rotatory internship.

Course Discontinuation Bond

If a candidate takes admission but decides to leave or drop out of the MBBS course mid-way before completion, they are legally liable to pay a penalty of 1 Lakh to the Government of West Bengal. The admitting medical institution will retain the student's original academic documents until this penalty amount is fully cleared.

MBBS Seat Leaving Policy in West Bengal 2026

West Bengal enforces financial and academic deterrents to prevent MBBS seat abandonment during NEET UG counselling. West Bengal mandates a 1-year compulsory service bond for government medical college graduates and students who discontinue their course mid-way face forfeiture of fees paid along with applicable financial penalties as per WBMCC guidelines.

Students surrendering confirmed seats after the stipulated deadline face strict consequences including debarment from subsequent counselling rounds for that academic year.

Seat Leaving Disclaimer

Seat leaving penalties and rules vary by counselling stage and institution. Check official guidelines at wbmcc.nic.in before cancelling or discontinuing your MBBS seat.
