About College
The Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER), Kolkata, is one of the oldest and distinguished government-run healthcare institutions in the eastern region of India. It is also known by its associate hospital - SSKM Hospital or PG Hospital because it was the first postgraduate medical institute in Eastern India.
The college was established in 1957 and inaugurated by the hands of Jawaharlal Nehru. It has since grown from strength to strength from the historic Presidency Hospital (founded in 1707) making it among the oldest healthcare institutions in Eastern India.
Spanning 34 acres and situated in the heart of Kolkata, (adjacent to the famous Victoria Memorial, Royal Calcutta Turf Club i.e. Race Course and Nandan film and cultural centre), IPGMER is affiliated with West Bengal University of Health Sciences and is recognized by the National Medical Commission. It has a large green campus and modern infrastructure.

Admission Process 2026, IPGMER & SSKM Hospital
Admission to MBBS at IPGMER is strictly through NEET-UG 2026:
- Qualify NEET-UG 2026.
- Participate in counselling:
- 85% seats via West Bengal state counselling (WBMCC)
- 15% seats via All India Quota (MCC)

Eligibility Criteria
