King George's Medical University (KGMU) Lucknow is an esteemed Government medical university in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It was founded in 1905 as King George's Medical College and in 1998 it became a full-fledged university. It is a historic institute and also India's oldest. It was ranked at no.11 among all the medical colleges in India in 2022, at no.5 among all the dental colleges and is ranked 50th among other medical universities by NIRF.

The university is approved by the National Medical Commission and is accredited with an A+ grade from NAAC. It consistently ranks among the top medical colleges in India, including top positions in NIRF rankings.

Spread across 24.711 acres, the campus has the largest attached multispecialty hospital and tertiary care centre (4000+ beds), historic architecture, modern academic blocks, advanced research facilities, residential accommodation for students and more than 500 skilled faculty members. It offers more than 100 courses in various specialities. The MBBS program admits around 250 students each year.

Admission Process 2026, KGMU Lucknow

Admission to MBBS at KGMU is entirely based on the NEET-UG 2026 exam conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency).

Steps include:

  1. Qualify NEET-UG 2026 with valid /required score
  2. Register for online counselling (15% All India Quota via MCC or 85% UP State Quota via UPDGME)
  3. Fill in college choices and select KGMU, Lucknow as preference
  4. Seat allotment is based on NEET-UG rank, category, preference and availability.
  5. Participate in the various counselling rounds - (Round 1, Round 2, Mop-up, Stray Vacancy) for seat allotment.
  6. Once your seat is allotted, download allotment letter and report personally to Kalam Centre, KGMU Lucknow
  7. Complete the document verification, medical check-up and pay the fees to confirm your admission.

Of the total 250 MBBS seats, 15% are filled through All India Quota and 85% through the Uttar Pradesh state quota.

Eligibility Criteria

TO be eligible for MBBS admission, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be at least 17 years as on 31st December 2026
  2. Must qualify NEET-UG 2026 with required percentile
  3. Must have passed Class 12 (10+2) or its equivalent with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) and English with minimum aggregate marks from a recognised education board:
    • General: 50% in PCB
    • OBC/SC/ST: 40%

Applicants can be Indian citizens, NRIs, OCIs and PIOs.

Uttar Pradesh domicile is required for admission under the State quota but not for All India Quota seats.
