The Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) at Banaras Hindu University is one of the oldest and most esteemed medical colleges in India. The IMS is situated on the historic BHU Campus in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, having been formally established in 1960 as part of the Faculty of Medicine of the university. The IMS is affiliated with BHU and additionally holds recognition by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Admission Process 2026, IMS BHU Varanasi

The Institute of Medical Sciences, located in BHU Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, has an admission process that is as follows:

For the MBBS programme, students must qualify to take the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026 - this test is being administered by the NTA (National Testing Authority) in 2026. Students must acquire the appropriate percentage based on their category, in order to gain an entrance into IMS (Institute of Medical Sciences), BHU (Banaras Hindu University).

Once students pass the NEET-UG, and the results have been declared, they must register online for counselling through MCC (Medical Counselling Committee).   2. No upper age limit is specified by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for an applicant.
  3. The applicant will need to pass NEET UG - 2026 with the required percentile.

Infrastructure

IMS-BHU has modern infrastructure to provide both an upper level of training and clinical facilities. There are smart classrooms with various digital learning tools that provide students with interactive & technology-based learning experiences. The labs in departments (anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry) have been fully equipped to give students hands-on scientific training.
