About College

Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital (IGGMCH), Nagpur is one of the oldest and most prestigious government medical colleges in Maharashtra, established in 1967-68 subsequent to the conversion of Mayo Hospital into a dedicated medical college. It is one of the two Government colleges in Nagpur and one of the top ten medical colleges in Maharashtra. It is run by the Government of Maharashtra with a mission to provide high-quality medical education, research, and compassionate healthcare to patients across the state and India.

The institution is spread over a 39 to 42 acre campus and located in proximity to the railway station, and has modern classrooms, residential accommodation and advanced facilities. It offers medical courses like MBBS, MD/MS, PG Diploma and various allied health programmes. The institute, being integrated with Mayo Hospital, one of the busiest tertiary care centres in the region, provides the students broad and diverse clinical learning opportunities.

MBBS Programme at College

  1. Degree: MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery).
  2. Duration: 5.5 years (4.5 years of academic study + 1 year mandatory internship).
  3. Seats: 200 MBBS seats available each year.
  4. Admission: Through NEET UG 2026, seats will be distributed via All India and Maharashtra State counselling.

Admission Process 2026 at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital

  1. Qualify for NEET-UG 2026 conducted by the National Testing Agency(NTA).
  2. Register for All India (MCC) & Maharashtra State Counselling (CET Cell).
  3. Participate in choice filling and seat allotment based on minimum percentile requirements for NEET-UG as per category (general/SC/ST/OBC).
  4. Report to IGGMCH, Nagpur, with all original documents for verification and fee payment

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for MBBS admission, candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • Completion of 12th grade or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English from a recognized educational board.
  • Obtaining the minimum percentage criterion (50% aggregate in PCB for general category and the equivalent for reserved categories), as per NEET/medical admission standards.
  • Age limit of the candidate must be at least 17 years on or before December 31 of the year of taking admission. 

For postgraduate medical courses, the candidates must clear NEET-PG and complete the designated counselling process.
