About College

The Haveri Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) is located in Haveri, Karnataka and was established by the Government of Karnataka in 2012 to improve and enhance medical education as well as public health care services to northern Karnataka. HIMS is recognised by the National Medical Commission and is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore.

Every year, there are 150 MBBS seats available through the Institute, and the HIMS is part of one of the largest District Teaching Hospitals in Karnataka with a capacity of more than 500 beds. All students are exposed to a wide range of practicum based experiences during their education/clinical training in the following areas: Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and other related specialties. In addition to being exposed to a wide variety of clinical experiences in both rural and semi-urban areas, HIMS faculty is experienced and has modernised laboratory facilities with strong outreach programs.

Based upon the fee structure for Government students, HIMS is one of the most economical medical colleges in Karnataka.

Admission Process 2026, HIMS Haveri

The admissions process is based on merit and will only be done through national and state-level counselling procedures : 

  • You are to qualify by NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) which is conducted by the National Testing Agency. 
  • You will register online for the counselling in Karnataka through the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). 
  • You will choose the colleges you would like to apply to, and then you will select HIMS as one of your options in the online application. 
  • You will be able to participate in both the mock and official allotment rounds. 
  • If you are allotted a seat, you will be able to download the allotment letter, pay the tuition/registration fee online, and report to HIMS for document verification and medical fitness. 
  • If seats are still available, there will be a mop-up round and a stray vacancy round conducted. 

Seats will be allocated on the basis of your NEET rank and your category and preferences. 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply to study MBBS at HIMS you must : 

  1. Have reached a minimum age of 17 by December 31, 2026 
  2. Have qualified the NEET-UG examination. 
  3. Minimum percentile cut off: 
    •  General - 50th percentile 
    •  SC/ST/OBC - 40th percentile 
    • PwD - 45th percentile 
  4. Complete at least a 10 + 2 course in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English 
  5. Achieved a minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry & Biology (40% for reserved categories). 
  6. Candidates who are Indian citizens, OCIs & NRIs are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who have domicile of Karnataka under the state quota
