About College

Government Medical College, Vizianagaram is a new Government medical institution located in the 'city of victory' Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh. It was established in 2023 as a part of Andhra Pradesh Government's initiative of having a medical college in every district of the state.

It is located near the tribal regions and provides medical education and healthcare services to the people of the region as well as neighbouring districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. It is also known as Dr. YSR Government Medical College, Vizainagaram or GMC Vizianagaram.

The college is affiliated with the Dr.YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada and is approved by the National Medical Commission. It offers MBBS (150 seats per year) and allied health and paramedical courses.

The college has clinical speciality services like NHM Non-Communicable Diseases, Anti-Retroviral Treatment, Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre and De-addiction Centre, as well as special clinics for Dental medicine, Physiotherapy, Animal Bites Clinic among others.

The campus is spread over 70 acres and is attached to the Government General Hospital (GGH) Vizianagaram, which is a multi-speciality hospital and tertiary care centre/referral. The institute has smart lecture halls, functional departmental laboratories, residential accommodation for students and support services.

The fees structure for the MBBS program is according to the quotas - Category A - Government Quota, Category B - Self-Financing Quota and Category C- NRI Quota.

Admission Process 2026, GMC Vizianagaram

MBBS admission is based only on merit - the score of the qualifying NEET-UG 2026 exam.

Seat allocation : 85% for State quota and 15% for All India Quota

Steps of the Process:

  1. Qualify the entrance NEET-UG 2026 exam conducted by the NTA.
  2. Then register online for counselling through the portals - Dr.YSRUHS for 85% state quota and MCC for 15% All India Quota.
  3. Take part in the choice filling and locking, select GMC, Vizianagaram, as preferred college.
  4. There are various counselling rounds for seat allotment, which is based on rank, category, choices and availability.
  5. When the seat is allocated, a provisional allotment letter has to be downloaded.
  6. Report personally to the college with all original documents for verification, medical fitness checkup and payment of fees, within the given time limit.

  3. Qualification: Passed Class 12 (10+2) or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (PCB) and English from a recognised education board with -

    • General: 50% in PCB
    • OBC/SC/ST: 40% in PCB
  5. Must qualify NEET UG 2026 with the minimum required percentile -
    • General/EWS: 50th percentile
    • SC/ST/OBC : 40th percentile
    • General PH: 45th percentile
    • Reserved PH : 40th percentile
  6. Nationality: Indian citizens, NRIs, OCIs and PIOs.
  7. AP Domicile candidates are preferred for state quota seats.
  8. Must be medically fit.
