About College

Government Medical College, Kollam is the first Government medical institution in Kerala. It is also known as GMC Parippally. Originally formed by the Central Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in 2013, the college was taken over by the Government of Kerala and became officially functional in 2016.

The institute is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and is recognised by the National Medical Commission. It offers MBBS, postgraduate, paramedical and nursing medical programs. The annual intake is 110 MBBS seats per year.

The campus is spread across 33 acres and has an attached teaching hospital, air-conditioned lecture halls, advanced laboratories, staff quarters, residential quarters for students and support services.

It follows a strong academic curriculum and has modern teaching methods and tools.

Fee Structure 2026, GMC Kollam

The fees structure is very economical as it is a Government-run institution.

  1. Approximate Annual MBBS Tuition Fee: Rs.23,150 to Rs.25,000 per year for General/AIQ/State quotas.
  2. ESIC Insured Persons (IP) Quota fee: Rs.24,000 to Rs.25,000
  3. Miscellaneous and Special Institutional fees: Rs.1.740 to Rs.3,480 per year.
  4. Hostel fee: Rs.600 per month
  5. Mess charges: Rs.3,500 to Rs.4,200 per month

Admission Process 2026, GMC Kollam

The admission for the MBBS program is entirely based on merit - NEET-UG 2026 scores.

  1. Qualify NEET-UG 2026 with a valid score.
  2. Register on the portals - Commissioner for Entrance Examination (CEE) or Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) as per quota for counselling
  3. Select Government Medical College, Kollam, in choice filling and locking.
  4. Download the allotment memo when the seat is allocated.
  5. Personally report to the college for physical verification of documents and submission, biometric verification, fitness checkup and payment of fees

Seat allocation - 85% state quota and 15% All India quota. Since the college was initiated by the ESIC, some seats are allocated to the children of ESIC-insured workers, who can apply through the MCC portal with the required documents.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for MBBS admission, candidates must meet the following conditions:

  1. Must have passed Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English with minimum aggregate marks in PCB
    • 50% (General/EWS)
    • 40% (SC/ST/OBC)
    • 45% (PwD)
  2. Must qualify NEET-UG 2026 with minimum required score/cutoff
  3. Must be at least 17 years old as on 31 December 2026
  4. Applicants can be Indian citizens, OCIs and PIOs.
  5. Kerala Domicile holders are preferred for state quota seats.
  6. Must be medically fit.
