About College

Baba Raghav Das Medical College (BRD) is one of the top government institutions for medical education and training in northeastern India. It’s located in Gorakhpur, U.P., which is approximately 300 km from the capital of U.P., Lucknow and was established in 1969 after the laying down of its foundation stone by the then Chief Minister, Chandra Bhanu Gupta. The campus occupies about 147 acres on Maharajganj Road in Gorakhpur, U.P.

BRD Medical College is connected to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University (ABVMU), Lucknow and is also recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The name “Baba Raghav Das” honors a great freedom fighter in India.

BRD Medical College has dramatically contributed to developing the methodology of diagnosis and therapy for treating Japanese Encephalitis (JE) through both basic and clinical research over many years in the state of U.P. JE has been endemic to the Purvanchal Region of U.P. for decades.
