25 New Medical Colleges Added in 2026-27

This year, NMC has approved 25 new colleges and created 2,400 new seats in the system.

7 government colleges, with a 400 seat addition.
2000 additional seats in 18 private colleges

The largest increase in new colleges and seats was observed in the states of Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. If you are applying to a new medical college, check the status before applying. There are still some awaiting final clearance.

Compliance Rules for Colleges

There are strict guidelines laid down by NMC this year and colleges can't ignore them.

  • Students are to be admitted to colleges only against the approved number of seats. Any excess admission will fall under NMC Act 2019 and can be penalized.
  • The E-Bank Guarantee must be submitted by the private colleges (with new or additional seats) within 7 days of notification, which will be around 21st July 2026.
  • MARB will only issue the Letter of Permission after it is able to verify the bank guarantee.
  • All colleges are required to verify their own seat numbers and inform MARB before the counselling process begins, if there is any issues.

What this Means for NEET UG 2026 Candidates

It is possible for the matrix to still change. If the Appeal Committee intervenes, NMC stated that it is subject to revision. Be sure to regularly visit the MCC website before you make your final selection.

An increase in the number of seats is good news, but the increase is not distributed equally. Your chances don't change drastically if your desired state didn't experience any growth, since most new seats are in certain states and private colleges.

The part parents will have to watch closely is the seat addition at new private colleges is still not completely confirmed. NMC will only issue the Letter of Permission once it has verified that the bank guarantee has been issued. A seat might appear to be available on paper, but may be changed at the last minute.
