About College

The Armed Forces Medical College Pune (also known as AFMC) is among India's top 3 medical colleges, being the first medical institute to be set up by the Armed Forces of any country in Asia. It provides medical education and practical training. It prepares the students to become “doctor-officers” to cater to the healthcare requirements of the Armed Forces.

It was founded in 1948 and is managed by the Ministry of Defence. It occupies a 120-acre area and is equipped with modern facilities, residential accommodation for students, staff quarters and provides assured career options for its students in the defence services.

It is affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) Nashik and is recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) . It provides MBBS, postgraduate (MD/MS) and nursing medical programs.

It provides training via the on-campus Command Hospital (Southern Command) and nearby Army Institute of Cardio-Thoracic Sciences (AICTS), Military Hospital (Kirkee) and Artificial Limb Centre and Cantonment General Hospital.

Mandatory Service Bond

A compulsory service bond has to be signed by all of the MBBS cadets (Rs.63 lakh for 2026). This makes them remain committed to serve as Commissioned Officers of the Armed Forces Medical Services. If they leave the program mid-way, then they have to pay the bond amount to the college.

Admission Process 2026, AFMC Pune

Admission is fiercely competitive and has many stages after NEET:

  1. Candidates must qualify and secure a high rank in NEET-UG 2026.
  2. Candidates must register online with the Medical Counselling Committee and select AFMC Pune as preference.
  3. Candidates will have to take part in screening at the AFMC Campus and give the tests i.e.
    • ToELR (Test of English Language, Comprehension, Logic & Reasoning)
    • Psychological Assessment Test (PAT)
  4. Candidates must appear for a personal interview to find out if they are suited to military life or not.
  5. Candidates must undergo a medical fitness examination as per the strict standards of the Armed Forces.
  6. The final selection / final merit list will be based on NEET-UG 2026 score, ToELR and personal interview.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for MBBS, the applicants must fulfil the following:

  • Nationality: Candidates must be Indian nationals only. Foreign candidates can be eligible only if they are sponsored by the Government
  • Marital status: Unmarried (candidates are not permitted to get married during the course)
  • Age: Minimum 17 years of age as on 31 December 2026; maximum age limit is 24 years
  • Education: Passed Class 12 exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English (in first attempt) and secured 60% aggregate marks in PCB or at least 50% individually in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English
  • NEET: NEET-UG 2026 with a high score is mandatory.
