And another factor of determining you total expenses is the place where you will be attending these elective clerkships. Below you will be able to see a rough sketch of what your budget should be for attending an elective rotation.
- Application fees for the clinical electives can be anywhere between $300 and $500. Some may cost as high as $1000 yet 500$ is a better deal.
- Elective program fees would range between $1,500 and $5000. However, you will also come across programs which cost no fees at all and your scores of Step 1 exam are a great deciding factor for getting into such programs. On the contrary, some programs would charge an amount as high as $6,000.
- You will need to manage your accommodation expenses too. The accommodation expenses would range from $500 to $1,000, subject to the location in the country your elective is in. For instance, if you are seeking an elective in the city of New York, then make sure you keep aside a minimum amount of $1,000 as your accommodation expenses.
- The Airfare can be further counted as one of these expenses. Therefore, the airfares can also show a lot of variations given the various factors such as the timing of your bookings, the kind of airline you prefer to travel in, etc.
- Consider at least $500 for miscellaneous expenses such as food, electricity and other utilities. As already mentioned to you, this is highly variable and is subject to lot of factors.
