RIGA Technical University (RTU) has marked its reputation as the oldest University in Latvia. Established in 1862, it carries a legacy of hundred and sixty years. RTU is the largest technical university in the Baltic Sea region. The institution is state-owned and internationally recognized.

The RIGA Technical University (RTU) has enrolled over 14,000 students. Currently, about 72% of students in the total count are Under Graduates (UG) while about 28% are Post Graduates (PG). Additionally, it has over 2,400 international students. Moreover, the RIGA Technical University has over 880 proficient faculty members.

RTU (RIGA Technical University) has a total of nine faculties. Also, it offers academic and professional study programs including Engineering, Social Sciences, and Humanities. It is the leading higher education institution in Latvia. RIGA Technical University got ranked under QS World University 2022 and stood 751st -800th position under QS sub-rankings. The RIGA Technical University campus is located in Riga while the main building is situated in the Old Town. The University constantly works on developing its infrastructure, considering the enhanced facilities on the campus. Moreover, it is acknowledged as the most advanced engineering study center in the Baltic Region.

RIGA Technical University gained the research staff, and currently, there are 291 leading researchers, 298 researchers, 261scientific assistants, 128 professors, 123 associate professors, 157 assistant professors, 143 Lecturers, and 153 assistants. Likewise, there are more than 560 academic Staffs which is equivalent to an overall ratio of 73% of the total staff.

Program Offered in RIGA

The RIGA Technical University offers more than 50 study programs including Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degree levels. Furthermore, these study programs are offered in English to international students. In RTU, students can acquire an academic or professional degree in study fields for instance Engineering, Economics, Management, Business, Electronics, Telecommunications, Transport and Aeronautics, Computer Science and IT, Environmental Engineering, Technical Translation, Humanities, Materials Science, Chemical Technologies, and others. Moreover, the MBA study program is provided at the Master's level.

If you are a student planning to do higher studies at the RIGA Technical University, the very first thing you need to know is the cost of living in Riga City. In Riga, the cost of living is slightly lower compared to other urban areas in Latvia. The cost of living in Riga is approx. 500-600 EUR per month for your daily expenses. Of course, your accommodation, food, and lifestyle will determine the amount you spend. Likewise, the accommodation cost in Riga would be around 200-250 EUR and 150-200 EUR for your daily food and drink.

Hostel & Accommodation

The international students have the opportunity to live in one out of 3 RIGA Technical University hostels. The hostel rooms are secured and fully furnished. Every hostel comprises a shared kitchen, laundry services, Wi-Fi, and a mini gym. The University hostel rent would be around150-200 EUR per month.

Scholarship

Students can obtain the Scholarship under the Erasmus+ program full-time study program. Under this program, the students get the opportunity to study at Europe universities. The students get monthly scholarships depending on the program offered. The Scholarship is given based on Academic Performance in the previous Semester.

Under the Erasmus+ program, the university cooperates with over 34 countries. Furthermore, 27 European countries, including Iceland, Lichtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, and United Kingdom are active participants in the Erasmus+ program.

Planning to move abroad for higher education is nowadays a trend. Thinking about how to fulfill your necessity needs? As an international student, while studying you are eligible to work part-time. As per the rule of Latvia, international students can work 20 hours a week as a part-time job during semesters and 40 hours per week during breaks semester.

Moreover, foreign students can easily work part-time on a student visa without requiring any work permit. The students can earn a minimum amount of 430 Euros monthly. This not only allows the student to earn a good amount for a living but also to manage their additional monthly expenses.

After studying at RIGA Technical University Latvia, as an International student, you are eligible to apply for a temporary residence permit. After graduating, students are allowed to stay in Latvia or any of the Schengen countries for 12-15 months, which enables them to look for jobs or get self-employed. Furthermore, the students must obtain the Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) as soon as they arrive in Latvia.
