Yerevan State Medical University is one among the leading Universities in the entire eastern European region. Founded more than 100 years ago in 1920, the University had achieved the status of an independent institution in year 1930. Being a member of International Association of Universities, the Yerevan State Medical University boasts of a great scope for student exchange, participation in grant programs under patronage of UNESCO joint conferences and research work. The University, in the span of 100 years, has introduced various educational and research programs which led the University to rose to prominence at international level. The University has also established direct relations in the manner of extensive cooperation with 30 other universities around the world which enhances its global status.
Yerevan is the capital as well as the largest city of Armenia. Situated by the Hrazdan river, one of the notable features of Yerevan is it has the presence of Soviet-era architecture. One of the grand avenues of the city is the Matenadaran library which is home to thousands of ancient Greek and Armenian manuscripts. The heart of the city lies in Republic Square which enhances its grandeur by musical water fountains and an array of government buildings. The city is a major economic and commercial zone of Armenia and besides this recognition, the University is going major infrastructural reformations as well.
The campus life of students at Yerevan State Medical University is largely influenced by the Armenian Medical Students’ Parliament. Armenian Medical Students’ Parliament (AMSP) is a self-governed society of students which pledges to protect the rights of the students and promote their interests. 4 out of every 5 students of the University actively take part in the activities of AMSP. Having established good relations with students’ societies of medical universities of other countries, it encourages student exchange programs and international visits as well.
There are other students’ societies that one can be a part of such as Council of Young scientists, scientific and academic council, etc. where one can promote his ideas, get to know others who share similar interests and be a part of positive innovations.
The University houses the international students in its two hostel buildings. The hostel facilities provided to the students can be characterized as adequate in terms of dwelling and studying and also recreation. There are separate wings for boys and girls. Also, rooms are allotted on a sharing basis. There is also a hostel cafeteria which represents itself as a non-commercial dining space so the students could afford dining items easily.
Speaking of food, there is availability of Indian food and the breakfast is served everyday to the hostel dwellers without any cost. Other facilities of the hostel include a reading room, computer room with internet facilities, conference hall, celebration hall, laundry, etc. The entire hostel building is equipped with a heating system for winter season.
