Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College is a private medical college that was established in 2002 while the hospital started in 1995. It was founded by Mohammad Shamsul Haque who named it after his late mother Tairunnessa who happened to be a social reformer. What started out as a small outpatient department in late 1900s now stands as a prestigious hospital with a multidisciplinary complex with 500 beds; and is now recognized worldwide as a center of excellence in terms of treatment for heart disease and research. The college was founded with a view to build a center of excellence that could demonstrate a high standard of graduate education in medicine.
