Also, the university was awarded with the “gold medal European quality” in the year 2009.
Yoshkar Ola is capital of Mari El Republic. Yoshkar-Ola is called as the red city in Mari. Before 1919, the city was well known as “Tsaryovokokshaysk”. In between 1919 and 1927 the city was termed as “Krasnokokshaysk”.
The city was named after the Malaya Kokshaga River which flows through the city.
The city has a temperate continental climate. It is one of the ancient cities in Russia. There are a number of bus and railway routes which connects Yoshkar-Ola with different cities and towns.

The Mari State University was listed in the directories of Medical Council of India (now NMC), European Medical Council, UNESCO (world’s major health organizations).

Having separate hostels for girls and boys, Mari State University is well-equipped with CCTV surveillance for the safety and security of its students, that too, 24 X 7. Each hostel has free Wi-Fi, hot/cold water, and heater (air conditioner) facilities. Every hostel has a kitchen at each floor where students can cook for their own selves, if they wish. Also, there are washing rooms for students where you can easily wash your clothes. In fact, no outsider is allowed to enter the premises of Mari State University without due permission from the dean’s office.
Speaking of the co-curricular activities, there are internet clubs, scientific communities, volunteering charity work, sport schools, cultural events and much more. In addition to this, there are various other sources for physical activities like field complex, mini-football field, two sandy courts, track, fitness rooms, asphalt court for team sports, indoor courts, shooting range, and two exercise rooms for aerobics.
