Budapest Metropolitan University (Hungarian: Budapesti Metropolitan Egyetem) is a private higher education academy located in Budapest, Hungary. Established in 2000, the University is officially named Budapest Metropolitan University or Budapest Metropolitan Egetem. However, it received state accreditation in 2003.

The Budapest Metropolitan University boasts 6,500 students, out of which, 1000 are International students. It mainly focuses on study areas such as Communication and Media Studies, Business Management and Marketing, Tourism and Hospitality, and Applied Arts and Media Arts programs.

On February 26, 2005, the university organized its first graduation ceremony and released its first graduation batch of Business Communication students who graduated in January 2005. The university focuses on adding new technologies and learning programs for students. With the implementation of the Bologna process and ERASMUS programs, the university aims to deliver better interaction and skills development for learners worldwide.

The Budapest Metropolitan University conducts degree programs in English. It presents different Bachelor (BA) programs such as Animation, Business Administration and Management, Commerce and Marketing, Communication and Media Science, Craftsmanship, Film and Media Studies, Graphic Design, International Business Economics, International Relations, Finance and Accounting, Media Design, Photography, Television Production Arts, Tourism and Catering, Master (MA) programs, Communication, and Media Studies, Management, and Leadership and Tourism Management.

The Budapest Metropolitan University offers joint degree programs in Business Communication, International Communication, and Communication (Journalism), as well as regular and distance BA courses in European Civil Service and Business Administration. Currently, the university furnishes Bachelor's and Master's level degree programs such as Communication and Media Studies, Economics and Management, International Business, Trade and Marketing, Tourism, and Public Service.

Cost of Living in Budapest


If you are a student planning to get higher studies from the Budapest Metropolitan University, you must first know the cost of living in Budapest City. The city offers affordable living and is considered a budget-friendly place in Hungary. The total cost of living in Budapest including daily expenses would be approx. 300-400 EUR per month. Hostel & Accommodation

The University offers accommodation services to national and international students. Nonetheless, most international students prefer to stay in a Budapest Metropolitan University hostel as they get numerous facilities and the traveling will be easy and money-saving. The university has two hostel structures - Nova Inn and CEU Residency center. Nova Inn hostel is situated on the University's main campus and is packed with modern facilities. Indeed, the hostel charges depend on the type of accommodation you choose. However, the hostel costs around € 250-300 and a private apartment is around € 400-500.


As an international student, studying in Hungary you get the opportunity of a scholarship. The University presents different sorts of scholarships, to support the students through discounts on tuition fees and living expenses. Budapest Metropolitan University distributes scholarships to the students who scored the highest credit index in the earlier semester. Moreover, selected students will get waived off 33% discount on their tuition fees.

At Budapest Metropolitan University, students can study for one or more semesters with an Erasmus+ scholarship. Likewise, students can gain higher education in other countries. Under the Erasmus+ program, students get support for living costs by 400-500 EUR/month.

Part-Time Job

While studying abroad, the students become anxious about how to earn extra, there is no need to worry! As an International student, you are allowed to work 4 hours as a part-time job or a full-time job during the vacation. And hence, while studying the students can work at a part-time job. The students can earn up to 1,300-1,500 Euros per hour. Indeed, this amount is good enough to meet your additional monthly expense while you study in Hungary.

After you have completed your studies at Budapest Metropolitan University, as an International student, you are eligible to apply for a temporary residence permit. The students are allowed to stay in Hungary for more than 9-10 months for the “study-to-work” permit. The stay duration is sufficient for students to find a job or start their businesses. If you continue to work in Hungary, you can easily acquire a residence permit. Furthermore, the students must obtain the Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) as soon as they arrive in Hungary.
